Malar Publications Ltd was promoted by Late Sri Si.Pa. Aditanar and family in the year 1979.  It launched the evening Tamil daily Malai Malar at Coimbatore.  It had estabilished itself there and then started editions at Salem, Chennai, Madurai, Trichy, Pondicherry, Nagercoil and Trichy.  It has totally 8 editions being published from the above centers.  Thus Malai Malar offers full  coverage of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry. The total readership of the daily as per IRS 2005 Round 2 is 14 lacs per day.

Malai Malar the evening Tamil Daily gives focus to major events in the cities and news in the sphere of crime, entertainment, TV coverage, women’s feature, children’s page, students’ page etc.  Such a broad based coverage has made Malai Malar a trend setter, thereby facilitating readership from all walks of life.  Malai Malar publishes weekly colour supplements in 8 pages in tabloid format named Mahalir Malar (focused on women), Thenmalar (focused on film & entertainment) Jothida Malar (focused on Astrology) on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays respectively.

The evening daily has the consistent track record of being the largest circulated evening Tamil Daily for the past few years.

Malar Publications has a total staff strength of about 325 reporters spread over all the places to gather local news.  Apart from its own staff, the company also employs freelance reporters to gather news from various locations.   Each branch is headed by a Branch Manager who takes care of branch operations.  Each publishing center has Editors, sub editors, reporters, photographers with its own printing facilities at all the locations.
